ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪܟܝܢ ܡܝܬ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܐܡܠܟ ܚܢܘܢ ܒܪܗ ܒܬܪܗ

After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܥܒܕ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܥܡ ܚܢܘܢ ܒܪ ܢܚܫ ܐܝܟ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܥܡܝ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܫܕܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܡܒܝܐܘܬܗ ܥܠ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܒܝܕ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܘ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ
emwn dbny l're' ddwyd ebdwhy w'thw ebdwhy byd 'bwhy el lmby'wthh dwyd wshdr Tybwth' emy 'bwhy debd 'yk nkhsh br khnwn em Tybwth' 'ebd dwyd w'mr
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

ܘܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܠܚܢܘܢ ܡܪܗܘܢ ܡܝܩܪܘ ܡܝܩܪ ܗܘܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܐܒܘܟ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܕܫܕܪ ܠܘܬܟ ܡܒܝܐ̈ܢܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܢܓܫܝܗ̇ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܢܒܕܩܝܗ̇ ܘܢܗܦܟܝܗ̇ ܫܕܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܠܘܬܟ
lwthk ebdwhy dwyd shdr wnhpkyh wnbdqyh lqryth' dngshyh mTwl hw' l' mby'n' lwthk dshdr beynyk l'bwk dwyd hw' myqr myqrw mrhwn lkhnwn emwn dbny rwrbn' w'mryn
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”

ܘܐܚܕ ܐܢܘܢ ܚܢܘܢ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܪܥ ܦܠܓܐ ܕܕܩܢܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܡܚܝ ܟܘܬܝܢ̈ܝܬܗܘܢ ܒܓܐܪ̈ܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܐܫܬ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܫܕܪ ܐܢܘܢ
'nwn wshdr l'shthyhwn edm' bg'r' kwthynythhwn wmkhy ddqnyhwn plg' wgre ddwyd lebdwhy khnwn 'nwn w'khd
So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܫܕܪ ܠܐܘܪܥܗܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܗܘܘ ܐܢܫܐ ܒܗܝܬܝܢ ܛܒ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܬܒܘ ܒܐܝܪܝܚܘ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܢܐܥܘܢ ܕܩܢܝܟܘܢ ܘܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܬܐܬܘܢ
th'thwn dyn why dqnykwn dn'ewn edm' b'yrykhw thbw mlk' lhwn 'mr Tb bhythyn 'nsh' dhww mTl l'wrehwn wshdr ldwyd wkhwyw
When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

ܘܚܙܘ ܒܢܝ̈ ܥܡܘܢ ܕܐܣܟܠܘ ܒܕܘܝܕ ܘܫܕܪܘ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܐܓܪܘ ܠܐܕܘܡ ܒܪ ܪܚܘܒ ܘܠܐܕܘܡ ܒܪ ܨܘܒܐ ܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܪ̈ܓܠܝܝܢ ܘܡܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܥܟܐ ܐܠܦ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܕܐܫܝܛܘܒ ܬܪ̈ܥܣܪ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܪ̈ܓܠܝܝܢ

When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.

ܘܫܡܥ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܫܕܪ ܠܝܘܐܒ ܘܠܟܠܗ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܓܒܪ̈ܐ

When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.

ܘܢܦܩܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܣܕܪܘ ܩܪܒܐ ܒܡܥܠܢܐ ܕܬܪܥܐ ܕܐܕܘܡ ܒܪ ܪܚܘܒ ܘܕܐܕܘܡ ܒܪ ܨܘܒܐ ܘܕܐܫܝܛܘܒ ܘܕܡܥܟܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝܗܘܢ ܒܚܩܠܐ
bkhql' blkhwdyhwn wdmek' wd'shyTwb tswb' br wd'dwm rkhwb br d'dwm dthre' bmeln' qrb' wsdrw emwn bny wnpqw
The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. The Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the field.

ܘܚܙܐ ܝܘܐܒ ܕܐܬܬܣܝܡ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܩܪܒܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܘܡܢ ܒܣܬܪܗ ܘܓܒܐ ܡܢ ܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܓܒ̈ܝܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܣܕܪ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܐܕܘܡ
'dwm lwqbl wsdr d'ysryl gby' kwlhwn mn wgb' bsthrh wmn qdmwhy mn qrb' elwhy d'ththsym yw'b wkhz'
Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.

ܘܫܪܟܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܐܫܠܡ ܠܐܒܝܫܝ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܣܕܪ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ
emwn bny lwqbl wsdr 'khwhy l'byshy 'shlm dem' wshrk'
The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐܒܝܫܝ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܐܢ ܢܥܫܢ ܡܢܝ ܐܕܘܡ ܗܘܝ ܠܝ ܡܥܕܪܢܐ ܘܐܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܢܥܫܢܘܢ ܡܢܟ ܐܬܐ ܘܐܥܕܪܟ
w'edrk 'th' mnk neshnwn emwn bny w'n medrn' ly hwy 'dwm mny neshn 'n 'khwhy l'byshy w'mr
He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.

ܘܢܬܚܝܠ ܘܢܣܬܕܪ ܥܠ ܐ̈ܦܝ ܥܡܢ ܘܥܠ ܐ̈ܦܝ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܐܠܗܢ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܢܥܒܕ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܘܗܝ
beynwhy dshpyr mdm nebd wmry' d'lhn qwry' 'py wel emn 'py el wnsthdr wnthkhyl
Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God; and may Yahweh do what seems good to him.”

ܘܩܪܒ ܝܘܐܒ ܘܥܡܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܠܡܬܟܬܫܘ ܥܡ ܐܕܘܡ ܘܥܪܩܘ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ

So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.

ܘܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܚܙܘ ܕܥܪܩ ܐܕܘܡ ܘܥܪܩܘ ܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܐܒܝܫܝ ܘܥܠܘ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܗܦܟ ܝܘܐܒ ܡܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ ܘܥܠ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ
l'wrshlm wel emwn bny mn yw'b whpk lqryth' welw 'byshy qdm mn hnwn 'p werqw 'dwm derq khzw emwn wbny
When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.

ܘܚܙܐ ܐܕܘܡ ܕܐܬܬܒܪ ܩܕܡ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܬܟܢܫܘ ܐܟܚܕܐ
'kkhd' w'thknshw 'ysryl qdm d'ththbr 'dwm wkhz'
When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.

ܘܫܕܪ ܗܕܪܥܙܪ ܘܐܦܩ ܠܐܕܘܡ ܕܡܢ ܥܒܪ ܢܗܪܐ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܚܝܠܡ ܘܫܘܒܟ ܪܒ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܗܕܪܥܙܪ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ
qdmyhwn dhdrezr khyl' rb wshwbk lkhylm w'thw nhr' ebr dmn l'dwm w'pq hdrezr wshdr
Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.

ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܟܢܫ ܠܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܥܒܪܘ ܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܚܝܠܡ ܘܫܘܒܟ ܪܒ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܗܕܪܥܙܪ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܣܬܕܪ ܐܕܘܡ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܐܬܟܬܫ ܥܡ ܐܕܘܡ
'dwm em 'thkthsh wdwyd 'ysryl lwqbl 'dwm w'sthdr qdmyhwn dhdrezr khyl' rb wshwbk lkhylm w'thw ywrdnn webrw 'ysryl lklh wknsh ldwyd wkhwyw
David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David and fought with him.

ܘܥܪܩ ܐܕܘܡ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܩ̇ܛܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܐܕܘܡ ܐܠܦ ܘܫܒܥܡܐܐ ܡܪ̈ܟܒܢ ܘܐܪܒܥܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܦܪ̈ܫܝܢ ܘܥܡܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܘܠܫܘܒܟ ܪܒ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܗܕܪܥܙܪ ܡܚܝܗܝ ܘܡܝܬ ܬܡܢ

The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.

ܘܚܙܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܗܕܪܥܙܪ ܕܐܬܬܒܪܘ ܩܕܡ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܫܠܡܘ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܦܠܚܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܕܚܠܘ ܐܕܘܡ ܠܡܥܕܪܘ ܬܘܒ ܠܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܡܘܢ
emwn lbny thwb lmedrw 'dwm wdkhlw 'nwn wplkhw l'ysryl w'shlmw 'ysryl bny qdm d'ththbrw dhdrezr ebdwhy klhwn wkhzw
When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.
